Step 1 - Word Lesson
This lesson is a pretest. Designed to gauge the student’s upfront ability and familiarity with the week’s spelling words, the structure and tenor of this lesson are similar to the actual classroom environment. Our host “Jake” will state the word, use the word in a sentence and state the word again. The student does have the opportunity to receive help with the word if needed via our "Help", "Clue" and/or "Hint" buttons. The pretest is designed not to frustrate the child but make them an active participate in his/her learning versus inactive by giving them the word upfront. If the student enters the word incorrect, the program will show them the correct spelling of the word and ask the student to enter the word correctly. After this lesson, the program will ask the student to get a piece of paper and a pencil and write each word. *NOTE: Just because the student is on the computer doesn't mean we neglect fundamental penmanship.
Step 2 -Pie Time!
This Lesson consists of an interactive spelling game similar to the traditional spelling game Hangman but uses a more kid friendly approach. As the user tries spelling their word they want to avoid getting pie thrown at an animated character. The lesson challenges the student to correctly spell their words. This lesson is followed by a SpellingTime.com writing assignment.
Step 3 - Word Scramble
This Lesson will utilize the popular word scramble format that tests the student's ability to find the words in scrambled letters calling upon their recognition skills and providing reinforcement of the look and structure of the words. Writing assignment to follow.
Step 4 - Pop Quz
This Lesson is a Pop Quiz wherein our host "Jake" oversees a simulated classroom testing environment and asks the student all the words on that week’s list. The program records and emails the results of the Pop Quiz to the parent thus providing valuable insight as to those words requiring additional attention and review. *NOTE: For individual accounts, you need to pass this quiz with a score of 70% or above to advance to the next step. For classroom accounts, the program assumes the students are preparing for a spelling test on Friday.
Step 5 - Spelling Test
This Lesson is a Spelling Test wherein our host "Jake" oversees a simulated classroom testing environment and asks the student all the words on that week’s list. The program records and emails the results of the Spelling Test to the parent thus providing valuable insight as to those words requiring additional attention and review. *NOTE: For individual accounts, you need to pass this test with a score of 70% or above to advance to the next step. For classroom accounts, the program assumes the students will be tested on Friday.
Review
During this time, the program will select from all the words previously studied and generate random tests consisting of 20 words and those results will be logged in the student’s account for further progress analysis. *NOTE: For individual accounts, a review lesson will be given after you complete your current lesson and before you start the next lesson. For classroom accounts, the review is for the weekends.
Reward
After the child completes his/her lesson they earn a game coin to play fun, age appropriate games. We add games through out the year. Currently we have over 26 games to choose from.
